Grande Prairie, AB – Mountain biking at Nitehawk Year-Round Adventure Park, just 20 minutes out of Grande Prairie, gets bigger and better every year. With shuttle access to the trails, it delivers great downhill riding, without the climbs.

“The closest thing you'll ever get to flying is riding a bike,” says Whitney Wild. Wild is a long time Nitehawk board member and avid biker, “mountain biking is my freedom.”

Even better, you can pitch camp right beside the trails! With the park and campground open through the end of September, there's still time to score some laps and kick back trailside after.

Wild’s dedicated over eight years of volunteer service to Nitehawk’s vision in becoming a year-round #exploreNWAB destination with over 15 years mountain biking experience on these slopes.

And for those who’ve yet to experience Nitehawk “the Hawk’s" summer outdoor menu, Wild suggests, “those coming to Nitehawk can expect nice camp spots, lots of quiet time, nice hikes, and well-developed biking trails.”

Biking trails that are “shuttle assisted” on Wednesday evenings and Saturdays with a van shuttle service that whisks riders back to the top. Set yourself and friends up for a stay within Nitehawk’s Wilderness Campground & RV Park and camp trail-side.

Back on those trails, beginner bikers will be happy to hear Nitehawk has your back with fine folks like Ricki Dzuba, one of the hill’s certified mountain bike instructors. “Those new to biking here at Nitehawk can expect to have fun first and foremost.”

She goes onto to describe the variety of trails allowing any biker of any level to come off the hill having learned new things.

“The fact that we are in a river valley, means our landscape is home to lots of different soil trails. You can go from sand to clay trails, so that's really neat and cool to experience.”

Next to these unique bike trails, Nitehawk’s done a skookum job in what can be known as a very male dominated sport, to be a female friendly venue “oh, it's not as bad as we thought it would be and it's not as scary,” says most who are in the Wednesday nights women group Dzuba coaches.

Hit the bike trails at Nitehawk, and camp trailside.

The Nitehawk community extends onto the patio where chicken wings and a new collaboration with Grande Prairie’s micro-beer producer awaits, with an invite to ride up for a pint of "Year-Round Adventure Ale."

This community feeling any rider, camper or hiker will score extends well out of the Gravity Mountain Bike Park, the patio and/or Nitehawk’s campground.

“I think it's important to know that it's 100% community-based, backed by enormous volunteer support,” explains Wild. “And it's a lot of work, but it's definitely worth it. We as the board here love giving back to the community and seeing our community being able to enjoy Nitehawk.”
